Mushroom, Shallot, and Herbed Goat Cheese Tarts

Description

These elegant savory tarts are packed with earthy mushrooms, sweet caramelized shallots, and creamy herbed goat cheese. They make a perfect appetizer for dinner parties or a delightful treat for any occasion. The flaky puff pastry provides the perfect buttery base for these rich and flavorful ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (button or cremini)
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • 2 oz herbed goat cheese, crumbled
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves (or 1 tsp dried)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into 4-6 equal squares or circles, depending on your preference. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Sauté Mushrooms & Shallots:
    • Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
    • Add shallots and cook until softened (about 2 minutes).
    • Add mushrooms, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook until mushrooms are tender and any liquid has evaporated (about 5-7 minutes). Let the mixture cool slightly.
  4. Assemble Tarts:
    • Evenly distribute the mushroom mixture onto each pastry piece, leaving a small border.
    • Sprinkle crumbled goat cheese on top.
  5. Egg Wash & Bake:
    • Lightly brush the edges of the pastry with beaten egg for a golden finish.
    • Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  6. Serve & Enjoy: Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with extra thyme if desired.

Notes

  • Swap goat cheese for feta or blue cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • Add a drizzle of balsamic glaze for extra depth.
  • These tarts pair well with a crisp white wine or a light salad.
